Approach

Passion. Experience. Diligence.

My approach to therapy is collaborative. It starts with a consultation where you tell me about yourself and what led you to seek support at this time. My intention during this meeting is to assess your goals and relay my approach to help you achieve them. The consultation is also a time for you to ask me questions about the process of psychotherapy and decide whether my approach feels clear and you are comfortable to proceed. As our relationship progresses, we may adjust the approach and goals of treatment.

In my work, I draw on a variety of theories, techniques, and empirically supported research. I feel most aligned with the psychoanalytic traditions, which emphasize insight, attachment, and emotional attunement to self and others,  and the cognitive-behavioral therapies, which focus on skill building and goal setting. I value learning new skills to approach old problems and exploring the ways in which our past impacts our ability to move forward in the present. My style is warm, engaging, direct, and active.
